Powerful Signal now offers the D-Link 3G Mobile Router from D-Link.  Two versions of the router are offered, the DIR-450 for CDMA aircards and the DIR-451 for GSM aircards.  This router is used with your aircard to create a Wi-Fi hotspot almost anywhere in your broadband network.  I say almost anywhere because you need a good cell signal for the cellular aircard in the router and we all know that we do have some dead spots out there in cellular land.

I tested the D-Link DIR-450 and was quite impressed.  There was a Quick Install Guide that I used and all worked well.  I had a Wi-Fi hotspot operational in the office within 15-20 minutes.  This type of device is going to be great for RV’ers and boaters.  Another use for this type of router is for people that don’t have access to DSL or Cable broadband.  This option should be more desirable than dial-up.  Think about it.  With a single aircard and a D-Link 3G router you can setup a Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple users.  You also get the wireless freedom so you can move your laptop around the house, RV or boat.  The RV’ers and boaters should realy like this setup.  Now check the email with the notebook going down the road.  Internet access where ever you have good cellular coverage.

 Another possibility for 3G Mobile Routers is for backup and disaster recovery.  Let’s say you are a business and your DSL service goes down.  It might be nice to have a backup Internet option.  It won’t be as fast as your DSL, but it would sure be better than nothing.  Emergency command centers can quickly have an operational Wi-Fi hotspot in their command posts.

When your cell signal is marginal, a cellular amplifier can be used to strengthen and improve cell signal quality for the 3G Router aircard.  Stronger cell signals equate to faster data throughput.  And we all know that we like snappy Internet screens.  The Wilson 801201 dual band cellular amplifier works well to boost cell signal strength on aircards.
